Here is the Dragon Boat video I downloaded from YouTube but could not remember the source. Thanks to the person for uploading. Great DB paddling freestyle stuff.

I think this is the same DB race but from a different angle. Thanks to Bev for posting some time ago.

Perlis Traditional Boat Festival Race

Perlis is the smallest state in Malaysia. It lies in the northern part of the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. They constantly have traditional boat races. This particular event took place in an irrigation canal that supplies water to the surrounding paddy fields. I cut the clip just to show the ending of two local teams battling it out at the finals, due most of the recording at the beginning was very jittery(forgot the tripod). Since this was a Festival race standing was allowed. The canal was neither deep nor wide hence a lot of drag and wash riding was involved. To add to the excitement of the race, you can actually follow the boats at the side. Here is the clip.

George Town becomes Cultural World Heritage Site

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng expressed his gratitude to the previous Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister, NGOs, the previous state government and government officials from the state agencies who had helped George Town achieve the listing. Lim also recorded its appreciation to UNESCO for listing George Town and Malacca as World Heritage Sites. George Town, he said, has been recognised for its largest concentration of pre-World War II buildings in South East Asia and multi-ethnic living heritage. "Malays, Indians, Chinese, Eurasians, Armenians, Japanese, British, Jewish, Filipinos and other small nationalities have contributed to the development of George Town,” he said.

Dragon Boat seat from IKEA

Once in a while, we come across a cheap alternative from everyday household items that help us in our sport . This idea I really have to give credit to the Singaporean paddlers. They were the ones whom I saw using them this way first. The rubber place mat can be doubled up as a DB seat. It has the advantage of being non-slip(unless we move our butts excessively), easy to maintain, raises our height : ) and is cheap. The ones I have, comes with a hole at the side and is easy to put one end of the 'T' grip handle through. It also comes in various colors. I am not sure what's it called but I understand that it could be 'Panna place mat'. Recently some paddlers cutting the place mat into square pieces to fit the DB seats.

Why this dbteams blog?

There are tons of sites out there about Dragon Boating and I am just joining in the fun by adding my blog to it. I will try to highlight as many stories on DB (abbreviation for Dragon Boat ; ) ) teams as possible, starting off with teams from Asia first. Besides this, I will also be touching on other stuff that might not be related to DB paddling as well (i.e food, places to stay, motivation, gadgets, etc.). If any of you have any interesting Dragon Boat news to share be it in terms of competition dates, racing results or something about your team, please email me at dbteams@gmail.com. I also welcome feedback on what I can do better to improve this dbteams blog. Hope you enjoy my site..
